Dallas gives us another great band with Supercell.
While often compared to the Goo Goo Dolls, Supercell reminds me of another Dallas band known as Purple Overdose. The album is filled with catchy hooks and riffs along with very sing-able melodies and lots of up and downs and statements on society.
Andy Warhol kicks off the album with a blast of rock to get your heart started. The song has catchy hooks and powerful guitar that drive the songs pace. Generation of the Numb is probably the best song on the album with its haunting guitar and spacey vocals. This song really makes a statement on society and our generation from a pessimistic point of view. The album then progresses into Brand New Day which is about change and a more optimistic tone. Shine slows down the pace a little bit with a mellower mood that shows some real meaning and heart. Supercell then decides to throw some acoustics into the mix with Flying, a love song with moving lyrics. Finally the album wraps up with Walk Away. Again we find catchy hooks and awesome melodic vocals that leaving you wanting more. All in all this is an album worthy of adding to your collection.
Supercell is:
Jason Wheelington (vocals)
Shannon Nedved (Guitar)
Nick Holmes (Bass)
Todd Huges (Drums)
